Charles R. Hooff Inc. Realtors is proud to enter the 21st century with a rich tradition of service to the Northern Virginia area. The Hooff Company was established in 1929 to restore and preserve historic Old Town homes of Alexandria. Mrs. Charles R. Hooff Sr., formerly Sarah Carlyle Fairfax Herbert, was dedicated to keeping the charm and history of Alexandria alive. Not only did she restore old homes and bring them back into the main stream, but she also worked with the Edward Carr Company to bring a new and unique single family residential development to Alexandria: Yates Gardens. This was a major addition to the pre-W.W.II housing stock of Alexandria.

The tradition continued when, after the conclusion of World War II, she was followed by her sons, Charles and John. Innovation housing ideas were brought to post war Alexandria. The highlight was the creation in the 1960's with Cameron Mews. This was the first true reproduction townhouse complex in Northern Virginia. Featuring the inclusion of traditional materials such as slate, copper, fully functioning shutters and over-size hand and rubbed brick. The buildings were all electric (very popular in those days), and were the first to use heat pumps in the Virginia area. The buildings were true 18th Century reproductions with a finished front as well as a equally detailed back. Classic 18th century design set the standard for townhouse projects to follow. The innovated home evolution was furthered by Charles R. Hooff III. His development of the Torpedo Factory residencies furthered the interest in historic design with contemporary utility. The Torpedo Factory condominiums are located in the heart of Old Town, Alexandria and range from townhouses to single bedroom flats.
